INFORMATIONFellowship — the highest class of membership within the society — is an acknowledgment of outstanding and continuing work in the field of geriatrics and gerontology. Fellowship recognition can come at varying points in a career and can acknowledge a broad scope of activity; research, teaching, administration, public service, practice, and notable participation within the CGS. CGS Fellows are a specially recognized group of healthcare providers or aging researchers who are dedicated to education, clinical care, and research, in geriatrics and aging sciences as well as to their own continuing professional development. Fellows have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities and in the Society by their service. Their dedication and longstanding commitment to CGS is particularly recognized by this mark of distinction. Fellowship designation carries a certificate commemorating your status and achievements. Certificates are presented at the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting, during the Awards Session. CGS encourages its fellows to use the “FCGS” designation — which stands for Fellow of The Canadian Geriatrics Society — when listing their academic credentials after their name. * the CGS is NOT accepting fellowship applications at this time |

Q: What is the benefit of someone becoming a fellow of CGS?
- Prestige and national recognition by their peers under the umbrella of scientific society
- For people in academics streams, fellowship designation helps in future endeavors as it demonstrates national influence and recognition
Q: Am I expected to become involved in a CGS committee/SIG once I become a CGS fellow?
Involvement in a CGS committee/SIG is voluntary and not a criteria of maintaining fellowship status.
Q: Do fellows have to continue to pay the regular member fees?
Yes, FCGS will continue to pay their regular annual membership dues.
Q: What happens if I am not accepted? Do I need to pay another application fee if I apply again?
Applicants not accepted may reapply without paying the fee again, if they reapply within 3 years.
Q: Will my FCGS designation expire?
FCGS status will expire if membership lapses or is termination of membership is requested as one of the requirements is to be a regular CGS member in good standing (active).
