How We Improve the Care of Seniors
The Canadian Geriatric Society (CGS) advocates, promotes and contributes to the development of national initiatives, including:
– Choosing Wisely Canada
– National Seniors Strategy
– National Dementia Strategy
Attracts students from all health care faculties to seniors’ care by supporting the student National Geriatric Interest Groups (NGIGs)
Attracts medical residents to under-served seniors’ care specialties, such as geriatric medicine, care of the elderly and geriatric psychiatry by supporting the Resident Geriatric Interest Groups (RGIGs).
Advocates and promotes leading best practices.
Reviews and endorses national initiatives (prevention of falls, medication deprescribing, etc.)
Develops national Special Interest Groups (SIGs) focusing on topics like falls prevention, continence, nutrition, medication de-prescribing etc.
Promotes research and education:
– Popular and exciting Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) that brings clinicians, educators and researchers together from across the country
– Peer-reviewed Canadian Geriatrics Society Journal of CME: www.geriatricsjournal.ca
– Peer-reviewed, indexed Canadian Geriatrics Journal: www.cgjonline.ca

Open to all professionals involved in the care, study or research of the elderly, who are in good standing with their respective colleges in Canada, if applicable
FEE: $325/year + HST OR $900/three years + HST
ASSOCIATE MEMBER – RESIDENTS
Open to residents, clinical or research fellows, Masters and PhD Candidates

FEE: $50.00/year + HST
STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
Open to full-time undergraduate students, including medical and allied health professional students

LIFE PATRON
Open to individuals who have been a CGS Member in good standing for the past five (5) years and who are retired from active clinical practice.
You must be logged into your CGS account to access this membership level *
IMPORTANT: Applicants are required to complete the Life Patron application form and attach it in their application.
Membership approval is at the sole discretion of the membership committee and applies to all membership types.

Support the Foundation
The CGS is committed to improving the care of older adults and has decided through its Foundation to promote interest among Medical Students in the practice of Geriatrics. Your donation will help the CGS Foundation us achieve this. You’ll also be supporting a scientific journal dedicated to the discovery and advances of care in older adults free of any pharmaceutical input. As we are a registered charity, you will receive a tax receipt.
